Clinical comparability of the standard MMPI and the MMPI-168.

The corrected copyright information is included in the erratum.] Examined the clinical correspondence of the full-scale Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) and the MMPI-168 on a psychiatric screening sample of 210 men (mean age 43.27 yrs). The present results fail to replicate previous optimistic findings regarding the worth of the MMPI-168 and accent the need for caution in any further use of this abbreviated instrument. Silicon strip detectors with capacitive charge division

Measurements of the behaviour of various high-resolution silicon strip detectors with capacitive charge division have been made in a high-energy particle beam. The results are compared with an electrostatic model which calculates the charges deposited on the strips after the passage of a minimum ionizing particle. Good agreement is found and the model is used to propose a method of improving the charge-division properties of such detectors.     

Enabling simulation interoperability

Over the past years a series of architectures have addressed the need to link multiple simulations. These efforts have been driven primarily by the desire to reuse existing "best of breed" simulations in new combinations to avoid developing any single, monolithic architecture with the impossible goal of meeting all simulation needs. The US Department of Defense began developing the high level architecture (HLA) for distributed computer simulation systems. The high level architecture addresses the need to link multiple computer simulation systems. HLA separates the data model from the architecture's functions for exchanging information.     

The hydrogen-fueled internal combustion engine: a technical review

A review is given of contemporary research on the hydrogen-fueled internal combustion engine. The emphasis is on light- to medium-duty engine research. We first describe hydrogen-engine fundamentals by examining the engine-specific properties of hydrogen and surveying the existing literature. Here it will be shown that, due to low volumetric efficiencies and frequent preignition combustion events, the power densities of premixed or port-fuel-injected hydrogen engines are diminished relative to gasoline-fueled engines. Significant progress has been made in the development of advanced hydrogen engines with improved power densities. We discuss several examples and their salient features. Finally, we consider the overall progress made and provide suggestions for future work.     

Maternal depressive symptomatology over the transition to parenthood: Assessing the influence of marital satisfaction and marital sex role traditionalism.

This longitudinal study examined the importance of the marital context in predicting maternal depressive symptomatology, as assessed with marital satisfaction and the endorsement of traditional sex role beliefs about the marriage, in 142 first-time mothers and their husbands or partners. Data were collected during pregnancy and at 6 weeks and 9 months infant age. Maternal and paternal reports about the marriage were assessed, and analyses were done on the way in which marital context scores interacted with earlier and concurrent levels of maternal depressive symptomatology. A hierarchical multiple regression analysis revealed that the final model explained 57% of the variance; marital context contributed 18% of the variance beyond that of earlier symptom levels in predicting mothers' depressive symptoms 9 months after the birth of the first child. Inkbottle Pore-Method: Prediction of hygroscopic water content in hardened cement paste at variable climatic conditions

The aim of this work is the development of a practicable method for the reliable prediction of the equilibrium hygroscopic water content in hardened cement paste and cement mortars at changing climatic conditions. Sorption thermodynamics and multi-scale pore structure of hardened cement paste build the basis of the new computation procedure. Drying and chemical aging lead to a formation of inkbottle pores. Their influence on sorption behaviour will be considered in particular by including them into the pore model. Experimental data of adsorption, desorption and scanning-isotherms verify the new computation method, which has been called “IBP-Method” (inkbottle pores).
